Caption: Human brain. Computer graphic of a healthy human brain, viewed from above, superimposed on a human head. The brain fits tightly within the surrounding protective bones of the cranium. The external anatomy of the cerebral hemispheres is seen here. The cerebrum is the largest, most developed region of the brain. Composed of highly folded convolutions it is involved in higher conscious thought, speech, language, and memory. Although the cerebral hemispheres are symmetrical in appearance, one hemisphere is usually dominant in the control of some higher activities such as speech or writing. For example, in right handed people, the left side is dominant.
