Caption: Brain anatomy. Illustration of the outline of a woman's head showing a cross-section through her brain. The cerebrum (large blue area) is the main part of the brain and is responsible for memory, conscious thought and voluntary movement. At the bottom right is the cerebellum (light green) which controls involuntary muscular coordination, balance and posture. The brainstem (brown) coordinates primitive reflexes. Above the brainstem is the limbic system, which controls moods and instincts, and includes the corpus callosum (red) and the thalamus (dark green). The pituitary gland (pink dot) to the left of the brainstem, produces various types of hormones.
