Caption: Brain. Computer illustration of a sagittal section of the brain seen on a profile of a head. The largest part of the brain is the folded cerebrum, which controls conscious activity, sensation and thought. The rod-like brainstem (below cerebrum at lower right) relays signals to and from the brain through the spinal cord. To the right of the brainstem is the cerebellum, which controls balance and posture. The blue arc at the centre of the brain is the corpus callosum, a band of tissue which links the two hemispheres of the cerebrum.
