Caption: Brain. Artwork of a section through a healthy brain. The largest part of the brain is the cerebrum (dark blue), which controls conscious thoughts. At upper right is the highly-folded cerebellum (pale blue and yellow), which controls balance and posture. In the centre of the brain is the limbic system (green), which is involved in the expression of basic emotions and instincts. Running down to lower right is the brainstem (yellow), which turns into the spinal cord in the neck. The brainstem controls unconscious activities such as breathing.
