Caption: MRI scan of a normal brain in a sagittal section. The cerebrum, the largest and most developed part of the brain, is coloured green & blue. It is divided into the right & left hemispheres which are linked by a thick band of nerve fibres, called the corpus callosum, seen as an orange band below the cerebrum. The dark area below the corpus callosum is a central cavity, the ventricle, filled with cerebrospinal fluid. The brainstem, a stalk of nerve tissue connecting the brain with the spinal cord, is at centre. The protrusion on it is the pons which contains bundles of nerve fibres. The cerebellum is behind the pons.
