Caption: Pianist's brain activity. Artwork showing the brain activity of a man playing the piano. The notes of the musical score (upper left) he is reading are analysed in the visual cortex (blue) of the brain (pink). The hand movements necessary to play these notes on the piano (bottom) are initiated in the motor cortex (green). Finally, the notes (lower right) are heard in the brain's auditory cortex (orange). These three sensory areas are found in the cerebrum, the folded tissue which makes up most of the brain. The cerebrum is involved in conscious thought processes and memory.
