Caption: Light micrograph of a multipolar neurone (nerve cell) from the human brain, showing the large, irregularly-shaped cell body (centre) containing a nucleus (circular) surrounded by cytoplasm. Processes of two types extend from all sides of the cell body: a single axon, & numerous dendrites. It is difficult to predict which of the processes visible is the axon. The axon, or nerve fibre, is the "output line" from the nerve cell, while the dendrites function as sites of information input into the nerve. In general, most neurone cell bodies are located in the grey matter of the brain. Magnification: x215 at 35mm size, x500 at 6x7cm size. Staining technique: Versilbert nach glees.
