Caption: Light micrograph of multipolar neurones (nerve cell) from the human brain, showing two large cell bodies, with a circular nucleus visible in neurone at right. Processes of 2 types extend from all sides of the cell bodies: a single axon and numerous dendrites. It is difficult to determine which of the processes visible is the axon (nerve fibre) - the axon is the "output line" from the nerve cell, while the dendrites function as sites of information input into the nerve. In general, most neurone cell bodies are located in the grey matter of the brain and spinal cord. Magnification: X 300 at 6x7cm, X 125 at 35mm size. Staining technique: Versilberung.
