Caption: Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a multipolar neuron cell body (central mass) from the human myenteric plexus. The myenteric (Auerbach's) plexus is one of a group of nerve bundles serving the alimentary tract. The nerve cell body is surrounded by a mass of processes (axons and dendrites) belonging to other nerve cells. Processes are also visible connecting directly with the cell body. Multipolar neurones typically possess a single axon that conducts impulses away from the cell body, and several branched dendrites, which receive stimuli from neighbouring cells.
