Caption: Human motor neuron. Three-dimensional Optical Density Plot of a human motor neuron (nerve cell). In this type of plot, the opacity of cell structures to prevent light from penetrating the cell, determines height on the plot. At centre is the rounded cell nucleus. The nerve cell is oval in shape, with branching processes that extend from it (left and right). These processes include an axon which transmits impulses from the cell; many branched dendrites receive incoming impulses for the cell. In this way, each neuron receives stimuli, processes it in the cell, and transmits micrograph. Magnification: x400 at 35mm size.
