Caption: Motor neurone. Computer graphic of a human motor neurone, a type of nerve cell. The sun-shaped object at upper right consists of a cell body surrounded by thin branching processes called dendrites. Dendrites carry nervous impulses to the cell body, which contains the nucleus of the cell. Descending from the cell body is a single axon, which ends at several terminal boutons (at bottom left). A terminal bouton is a type of synapse that transmits nervous impulses that have travelled down the axon from the cell body to a muscle. Cell bodies form the grey matter of the brain and spinal cord.
