Caption: Autonomic nerve cells. Light micrograph of a section through human nervous tissue from the autonomic nervous system. This system controls all involuntary movements and reflexes in the body. The bodies of several nerve cells are visible as orange/brown masses. Nerve fibres (axons) from these cells run along a nerve tract to each corner of the frame. Bundles of axons such as these form what is commonly referred to as a nerve. Nerve cells have several branching dendrites (not clear here) which serve as the cells' sensory receptors, while the axons are the output processes, leading to muscles, glands, or the dendrites of other nerve cells.
