Caption: Magnolia flower. View of the flower of an evergreen magnolia or Bull Bay tree, Magnolia grandiflora. These white flowers can reach 25 cm in diameter. M. grandiflora originated on the Atlantic coast of America and the Gulf of Mexico, but it is now a popular ornamental tree in Europe. This plant is also regarded as a "living fossil" as it has survived largely unchanged since the Mesozoic geological era. The Mesozoic started 225 million years ago and ended 65 million years before the present day.
