Caption: Sunflower. Large sunflower (Helianthus annuus) against a blue sky. A bee is seen on the flower at upper centre. The sunflower is a member of the family Compositae, the largest family of flowering plants. Sunflowers are often grown in gardens for their huge flowers, and may reach over three metres in height. The flower is actually a composite of numerous individual flowers, comprising the yellow rays (ray florets) as well as the darker central disc florets. As well as their decorative uses, sunflowers are grown commercially for their oil and seeds.
