Caption: Astrocyte brain cells. Light micrograph of a longitudinal section through grey matter from the cerebellum of a rat. The cerebellum is a region at the rear and base of the brain, responsible for sensory perception and motor control. Different nerve cell types are seen here. Astrocytes (red, star shaped), are a type of glial tissue, and provide support and nourishment for the nerve cells. Cell granules and the nuclei of nerve cells are blue.
