Caption: Organ of smell. Illustration of 3 dissections of the structure of the nose, nasopharynx and mouth. On the left the external structures of the nose are dissected. The second section shows the tongue and salivary glands, and the nasal septum (yellow) cut away to show the lateral compartment of the nasal cavity. The third section shows the inner nasal cavity, containing projecting bones called conchae (three curling plates). These are covered with mucous membrane (pink) which contains the nerves (yellow) responsible for smell. These nerves lead to the olfactory bulb of the brain (top). ***ALL MORAL RIGHTS ASSERTED.
