Caption: Eye anatomy. Coloured Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan of a human head (horizontal view), showing the eye anatomy. At upper left and right are the rounded eyeballs, with a disc-like lens seen inside each eye. Behind each eyeball is a large optic nerve (green) which leads to the folded cerebrum of the brain (blue, lower left and right). Light entering the eye is focused by the lens onto the retina at the back of the eyeball. The image is then transformed into electrical impulses which are interpreted by the brain. MRI scanning uses radio waves and a magnetic field to produce cross-sectional "slices" through the body.
