Caption: Eye. Artwork of a section through a human eyeball. Light first passes through the cornea (pale blue arch, centre left), the eye's main light-focusing structure. The iris (pink protrusions, centre left) contracts or relaxes to allow the ideal amount of light through the pupil, the iris' cent- ral hole. The light is finely focused by the lens (white oval, centre left), which hangs from the ciliary body, before hitting the retina (orange layer, peeling back) at the back of the eyeball. The choroid (pink layer, peeling back) supplies the retina with blood. Impulses from the retina's light sensitive nerve cells travel to the brain through the optic nerve (lower right).
