Caption: Touch sensors. Light micrograph of sectioned Pacinian corpuscles (three round objects), sensory receptors for touch found in the skin. The corpuscles consist of sensory nerve endings surrounded by capsules of 'onion-skin' membrane layers. These cells are stimulated by changes in pressure which cause mechanical deformation of their membranes. They are especially sensitive to vibrations. Magnification: x33 at 35mm size.
