Caption: Digestive system. Illustration of an outline of a man showing the human digestive system or alimentary canal. The oesophagus is a muscular tube which leads from the mouth to the stomach. The stomach (at centre right) digests food before passing it into the c-shaped duodenum immediately below it. The gall bladder (blue) secretes bile enzyme into the duodenum while the pancreas (below the stomach) secretes a pancreatic enzyme. Digested food then passes into the coiled small intestine (pink, at lower centre) and colon (brown) where nutrients are absorbed into the body. The liver (red, at centre left) controls the levels of most of the main chemicals in the blood.
