Caption: Transmission electron micrograph of a section through a whole secretory cell from the mucosal epithelium of the stomach. The large nucleus appears at bottom left and is surrounded at top and bottom by the endoplasmic reticulum (strand- like). Numerous mitochondria, the sites of energy synthesis within the cell, appear as mid-grey, cigar-shaped bodies. The black circular bodies are dense secretory granules.
