Caption: Oriental poppy (Papaver orientale), pink variety. The oriental poppy can grow to just over one metre high and flowers between May and June. At the centre of the flower is a large compound ovary (green with purple stigmatic surfaces on its tip). This is surrounded by dark stamens which produce large quantities of pollen. P. orientale does not produce nectar, instead it relies on its pollen and colourful petals to attract bees, which are the pollinators of the plant.
