Caption: Epithelial cells. Fluorescent light micrograph of isolated secretory epithelial cells from the human pancreas. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA, red), micro- tubules (blue) and actin (green) are seen. Actin is a protein that contributes to the cells' structure. It often assembles into long polymer rods (microtubules or microfilaments), which form part of the cell's cytoskeleton and are involved in cell division. The pancreas lies across the back of the body below the stomach, it secretes a digestive juice and the hormone insulin. The epithelial cells secrete bicarbonate, which neutralises the acid in the stomach during digestion. Magnification: x2520 at 6x9cm size.
