Light micrograph of normal human kidney, showing part of the cortex. Sections through four glomeruli are visible as regions of small cells surrounded by a clear space. The space is the lumen of Bowman's capsule which connects with a convoluted tubule. The point of connection between the capsule and the tubule, called the urinary pole, is visible at the top of the centre glomerulus. The remainder of the picture shows convoluted tubules in various planes of section. Those with thicker purple walls have well preserved brush borders. Magnification: x50 at 35mm size.
