Caption: Dove tree (Davidia involucrata) flowers (white). The white part is actually a leaf-like structure called a bract. The reproductive parts (red, seen on both flowers) are much smaller than the bract. The fruit that forms from the flower is reddish brown. The dove tree is an ornamental tree that is grown for these large white bracts that give rise to the various names, including dove, handkerchief and ghost tree.
