Caption: colour enhanced frontal view from an IVP (intravenous pyelogram). An IVP is an enhanced x-ray image in which a contrast material (dye) is used to examine the anatomy and function of the kidneys, ureters, and urinary bladder. An IVP is done for many reasons including kidney infections, suspected kidney masses, obstruction of the kidneys, kidney stones and suspected urinary bladder problems. The kidneys are colourized blue-purple on either side of the spine. The spine is the turquiose-reddish structure running vertically in the middle of the image.
