Caption: Normal right lung. Coloured X-ray showing the branching bronchial tree in a healthy right lung. The tube running from top right to centre is one of two bronchi, one for each lung, which attach to the trachea (windpipe). Inside the lung the bronchus divides into many bronchioles. Each bronchiole becomes smaller, finally ending in alveoli (tiny air sacs, not seen). The lungs are the site of gaseous exchange; oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide is removed.
