Caption: View of the linear accelerator or linac at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, New York. The linac receives protons from a Cockroft- Walton generator & accelerates them to an energy of 200 MeV before injecting them into Brookhaven's major accelerator, the AGS (Alternating Gradient Synchrotron). The AGS then accelerates them up to 25 GeV. Photo taken 1971
