Caption: Human chromosomes. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human chromosomes (green) and blood cell nuclei (pink). Chromosomes, which are found in cell nuclei, carry DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) genetic information in the form of genes. They can make exact copies of themselves while the cell is resting between successive cell divisions. It is only during cell division that the chromosomes become visible. Apart from the sex cells, each human cell contains 46 chromosomes, with 23 coming from each parent. Magnification: x360 at 6x7cm size. x1200 at 7.5x9.5 inch size.
