Caption: Anaphase stage of nuclear division. Computer artwork of chromosomes separating during the anaphase stage of mitosis (nuclear division). Two chromosomes (white with black bands) have replicated into two identical chromatids. The chromatids were joined in a region called the centromere (green), but have just separated and are being drawn along the mitotic spindle (light blue) to opposite ends of the cell. Once this separation is complete, the cell will complete its division into two daughter cells with identical genetic material. The mitotic spindle consists of microtubules, made from a protein called tubulin. Chromosomes contain the genetic material DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
