Caption: Foetal blood flow. Coloured doppler ultrasound scan showing the blood vessels in the brain of a healthy twelve week old foetus. Doppler ultrasound uses high frequency sound to detect whether foetal development is normal. The technique is also able to detect movement, such as blood flow, and shows the flow of fluids in different directions as different colours.
