Caption: colour enhanced nuclear medicine scan of a normal thyroid gland (2 yellow strucutures). This is a composite image of a nuclear medicine study where the camera is positioned in different views or angles over the neck region. Nuclear medicine scans are images which detect the uptake of radioisotopes which are injected into the blood stream intravenously. There is normal distribution of the radioisotope in both lobes of the thyroid gland on these images. The blue structures above the thyroid gland represent uptake of the radioisotope into the salivary glands.
