Caption: False-colour transmission electron micrograph of a fibroblast cell (coloured green & red at centre top) adjacent to a blood capillary (white structure at bottom right). The endothelial lining of the capillary appears yellow. A fibroblast is one of three types of cell found in connective tissue and which is responsible for the secretion and synthesis of collagen, elastin and reticulin precursors. Collagen material appears as pink-red dots at top & left of image. Connective tissue provides metabolic and structural support for other tissues and organs throughout the body. Rigid forms are bone and cartilage. Magnification: X 600 at 35mm size.
