Caption: False colour transmission electron micrograph showing fibrils of collagen, the principal component of white connective tissue. The fibrils have been shadowed with a heavy metal to show their banded structure. Collagen is a tough fibrous protein, which is found in the skin, cartilage, bone, ligaments & tendons. It is relatively inelastic, but has a high tensile strength. Magnification: X8,600 at 35mm size. Original is BW print P780/011. Yellow tint.
