Caption: Underwater hockey. Women playing underwater hockey in a swimming pool. Underwater hockey is a sport that was developed to improve diving skills. It is played in a swimming pool between teams of six who use fins, mask, and snorkel. A modified version of a hockey stick is used to move a weighted puck around the bottom of the pool and into the other team's goal. Underwater hockey began in 1954, and reached its modern form around 1985. It is played in some 20 countries around the world. This match is between the women's teams of France and Hungary at the 11th European Championships, which were held in Marseilles, France, in May and June 2005. France won 17-0 and went on to win the tournament.
