Caption: Athlete movement research. Footballer wearing reflective tags (grey dots) kicking a ball during three-dimensional motion analysis. His actions are translated into a wire-frame figure on the computer screen at lower centre. The room has 12 cameras and 12 lights (four seen, red). Each camera detects reflections from its own light. The reflectors are highly directional, allowing the camera to discern their exact position. Study of body movements may allow athletes to improve their techniques at a variety of sports. System designed by Oxford Metrics for the Sports Science Department at the University of Wales at Swansea, Wales.
