Caption: Photograph of the giant 4.2 metre diameter mirror of the William Herschel telescope as it undergoes its final polishing. The telescope is at present under construction at the La Palma Observatory in the Canary Isles. The mirror is made of Cervit and is believed to be the most accurately shaped mirror in the world.
