Caption: Caltech millimetre radio telescopes. View at night of the dish antennae of radio telescopes at Owens Valley in California, USA. Star trails are seen in the sky. This set of telescopes is known as the Caltech millimetre array. They detect objects in the universe that emit radio waves of millimetre wavelengths. As an array, they can act together focusing on a single object in the sky. Owens Valley station has a number of types of radio telescopes, including a 25 metre diameter radio telescope which forms part of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) network.
