Caption: Jodrell Bank. View of the 250 foot (76 metre) diameter Mark 1A radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, near Manchester, England. The dish reflects & focuses astronomical radio waves to the "focus box" at the top of the central tower. Commissioned in 1957, the Mark 1 was the world's first giant dish radio telescope. It was improved in 1970/71 & designated the Mark 1A.
