Caption: Light micrograph of a transverse section through the flower of a daisy, Bellis perennis, showing several florets (blue & white wheel-like objects). The daisy belongs to the Compositae and bears a composite flower head made up of numerous tiny florets. Each one is composed of five anthers, fused together into a tube surrounding the style. Each anther has four lobes & each lobe contains a pollen sac (white) filled with pollen grains. The familiar daisy flower is composed of a clump of yellow disc florets surrounded by a ring of ray florets bearing the elongated white petals. Magnification: x30 at 6x4.5cm size.
