Caption: Petal papillae. Coloured scanning electron micrograph showing papillae on the petal of a flower (Aubretia sp. ). Papillae are projections from epidermal cells. They are often swollen and covered in wax to help reduce water loss. Aubretia is a genus of low-growing hardy perennial plants (15 species known), often used in rock gardens. Magnification x750 at 6x4. 5cm size.
