Caption: Darwin infrared space telescope. Computer artwork of one of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Darwin mission telescopes in orbit. The Darwin mission, slated for launch in 2015, has three infrared free-flying telescopes that will feed observations to a main communications spacecraft containing a beam combiner, spectrographs and cameras. The misson's aim is to search for signs of life (such as water and ozone) on planets orbiting other stars. The planet Gliese 581 d (discovered in 2007) is considered a good mission candidate.
