Caption: Illustration showing the trajectories of the two Voyager spacecraft through the solar system. Voyager 1 (green trajectory) was launched on 5 September 1977, visited Jupiter in March 1979 and Saturn in November 1980, before heading out of the solar system. Voyager 2 (red trajectory) was launched on 20 August 1977, before Voyager 1. Owing to its longer flight path, it did not reach Jupiter until July 1979. It then went on to Saturn in August 1981, Uranus in January 1986, & Neptune in August 1989.
