Caption: Instructions on how to play the gramophone record carried by each Voyager spacecraft. The records give audio & visual information about Earth & its people. Launched in 1977, the two Voyagers are due to reach two stars in about 40,000 years. At top & centre left are face-on & profile pictures of the record & its stylus, with details of how to use them. At top & centre right are instructions on building the pictures; the circle in the rectangle is the first picture on the record, so aliens can verify that their interpretation is correct. The "starburst" at lower left shows Earth's position relative to 14 pulsars. The 2 circles at lower right represent the hydrogen atom.
