Caption: Artist's impression of the Galileo spacecraft passing an asteroid on its way to study the planet Jupiter. Galileo is due to be launched by the space shuttle on October 12, 1989. It is scheduled to fly through the asteroid belt on its way to Jupiter, though it will pass no closer than a few million kilometres to any known asteroid. The artwork shows Jupiter as the small orange circle beyond the asteroid.
