Caption: Rhododendron flower. Close-up of a flower of the rhododendron (Rhododendron sp. ) showing its reproductive parts. The male pollen is borne on anthers (beige), held on the tips of the long pink filaments. The female part of the flower, the carpel, is made up of a wide stigma (green) held aloft on a long pink style, which leads to the ovary (not seen). It is surrounded by the male stamens. Flowers such as these are insect pollinated. An insect lands on the flower to feed on its nectar, and pollen attaches to its body. When the insect visits another flower to feed, some pollen will rub off onto the female part, pollinating it.
