Caption: Geranium flower. Macrophotograph of the reproduc- tive parts of a Geranium clarkei flower. Several stamens are seen around the central carpel (dark, upper centre). Stamens are the male reproductive parts of a flower, and comprise a pollen-bearing anther held on a long filament (pale pink). Pollen grains (yellow) are the male sex cells of the flower. The carpel is the female part of the flow- er. Pollen from another flower of the same species is deposited on its tip (stigma) and travels down the long style to fertilise an ovary (not seen). These flowers are pollinated by insects, which carry pollen from flower to flower as they feed on nectar. Magnification: x3.3 at 35mm size.
