Caption: Geranium flower. Macrophotograph of the reproductive parts of a Geranium sanguineum flower. Several stamens are seen around the central carpel. Stamens are the male reproductive parts of a flowering plant, comprising pollen- bearing anthers held on long filaments. Pollen grains (dark blue) are the male sex cells of the flower. The carpel (pale green) is the female part of the flower. Pollen from another flower of the same species is deposited on its tip (stigma) and travels down the long style to fertilise an ovary (not seen). The flowers are pollinated by insects, which carry pollen from flower to flower as they feed on nectar. Magnification: x5.4 at 35mm size.
