Caption: Mariner 10 photograph of the surface of Mercury, the innermost planet, showing the heavily-cratered terrain typical of the planet. The dark, ridge- like structure visible near, and roughly parallel to, the right hand edge of the image is known as Antoniadi Dorsum. Mariner 10 was the first spaceprobe to visit the planet, making three separate encounters during 1974-5.
