Caption: Cranesbill pistil. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of the pistil of a cranesbill plant (Geranium sp.). The pistil is the female reproductive part of a flower. The stigma, at the top of the pistil, is covered in small projections called papillae. These trap pollen grains that contain the male sex cells to fertilise the plant. Magnification unknown.
